Two established Huntington County farm families earned recognition and the next generation of agricultural leaders showed their skills during the Huntington County Soil and Water Conservation District's annual meeting and banquet on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
The Ambriole family received the SWCD's Conservation Farmer Award for 2010.
Gary and LuAnn Ambriole farm about 1,200 acres, while their son Andy and his wife Cati Ambriole farm 410 acres.The Ambrioles use a combination of conventional, no-till and organic farming methods as they grow corn, soybeans and wheat. They have installed filter strips and waterways and plant cover crops on more than 370 acres to help reduce erosion and retain nutrients in the soil.....
