Decatur city services to be cut

Decatur Daily Democrat:

Stephen Carter and Jeff Raugh of Umbaugh attended the city council meeting, as they had several weeks ago. This time they brought an outlook revised from the previous report and the revisions brought no better news.
It's become all too obvious that the city is not only going to have to raise addtional fees — the trash-collection hike from $4 to $12 monthly has already been approved — but it is increasingly looking like some services are going to have to be cut.

Decatur tax revenue to decline

Decatur Daily Democrat:

In the wake of the recession and Indiana Legislature-imposed property tax relief, city officials have known for some time that revenues are going to be falling off sharply next year and in the future.
Decatur is expected to lose an estimated $237,000 in tax revenues in 2010.
The city has already boosted trash collection fees from $4 to !2 monthly, due to begin in November.
"Indirectly, Indianapolis (Legislature) is forcing us to make these adjustments," the mayor said. "We don't want to increase these fees or cut any services, and this couldn't have come at a worse time (recession)."

Parking at the Hoosier Outdoor Experience, Sept. 26-27, at Fort Harrison State Park, is free, and should be easy.

Hoosier Outdoor Experience participants are asked to please park in the Maj. Gen. E.J. Bean Finance Center parking lot off Post Road. A free shuttle service will transport you to the event, or you may walk to the event from the parking lot. There will be no parking inside Fort Harrison State Park.

Once participants are on the grounds of Fort Harrison, they will be able to ride trolleys from one area of the park to another for free.
“We have rented the trolleys from the Indiana State Fairgrounds to move people around,” said Amanda Wuestefeld, Hoosier Outdoor Heritage coordinator.

To view a map of the parking lot, visit http://www.IN.gov/dnr/5479.htm. If using an online mapping site, such as www.mapquest.com, enter your destination as the intersection of Herbert Lord Rd. and North Post Rd.

The accessible lot will have an accessible bus into the event. Please do not park there unless you need this service.

The Hoosier Outdoor Experience is a family-friendly event that is the first of its kind in Indiana. Unlike traditional trade shows, visitors will be able to enjoy hands-on experiences in a wide range of outdoor activities, such as fly fishing, target shooting, archery, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, camping and much more.

The Hoosier Outdoor Experience is presented by the Department of Natural Resources and the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation, with sponsorship support from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust; Ball Brothers Foundation; WXIN-Fox 59, Indianapolis; and numerous other sponsors.

Parking, admission, activities, demonstrations and seminars are free to the public, but online registration is required. To register, go to hoosieroutdoorexperience.IN.gov and click on the yellow registration icon.

Event updates can be found at hoosieroutdoorexperience.IN.gov or on Facebook.
