The Huntington County Community School Corporation Board of Trustees approved the firing of a classified staff member, appointed a library board member and discussed the possibility of issuing a Qualified School Construction Bond application during its first meeting of the new year on Monday, Jan. 10.
Mary Caley was unanimously released from her duties as cashier at Crestview Middle School. Superintendent of Schools Tracey Shafer cited general employment duties as the reason for her release.
Juanita Buzzard was appointed the board's representative on the Huntington City-Township Library board. She was one of three applicants.
The board also gave permission to the corporation administration to seek the state's approval for a Qualified School Construction Bond application. The interest-free loan would be used primarily to fund improvements to the corporation's technology infrastructure, including replacing old computers, adding interactive technology and network improvements; and the Horace Mann Elementary heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. An alternate project, depending on available funds, is upgrading the serving lines in the Huntington North High School cafeteria, Shafer explained.
