The sun shone brightly on residents gathered by the Geneva War Memorial on Monday to remember the fallen veterans who hailed from the local area.
Earlier rain had moved out of the area and summer heat set in on those standing in shade in reverence of those who had given their lives on behalf of the American dream.
Berne American Legion commander Les Wagner told those present that, “So many of them gave up all the blessings we cherish, trading the green hill for a bunker, the laughter of children for the thunder of gunfire or roadside bomb, the starry night sky for shadows of death....
