“If you think that things are bad now, they could get a lot worse,” was the tone of South Adams school superintendent Cathy Egolf’s “State of the School District” address during Tuesday’s regular monthly school board meeting.
Egolf told those present that the board of education had asked for $9,416,835 in assistance for the general fund, but had only been given $8,974,910, a reduction of $441,925 or 4.7 percent reduction in hoped-for funding.
“There’s news of a possible nine to 10 percent additional cut in 2011,” said Egolf. “If that is approved, it would mean another $1 million reduction for our school district.”...
