Firefighters became ducksavers on Friday.
On a blazingly hot afternoon — at least 92 degrees and no shade — three members of the Decatur Fire Department spent some two hours rescuing nine ducklings, just a few days old, from a sewer under a parking lot.
A mother duck had been walking across the asphalt lot of the Fleetwood RV service center on Commerce Dr. in Industrial Park, on the west side of town, when 9 of her 11 babies slipped through holes in a manhole cover.....
