Original music to honor 3 women at Phil concert
On Saturday, Oct. 10, 8 p.m. the Fort Wayne Philharmonic’s Masterworks Concert will feature a commissioned piece of music honoring three women who were dedicated to encouraging, nurturing and supporting the art of music.
“What the Soul Remembers” by Amy Scurria of Durham, NC will honor the memories of Wilda Gene Marcus, Dr. K. Marie Stolba and Colleen Benninghoff, all trained musicians who had a passion for music and were enthusiastic patrons and supporter of the FW Philharmonic. The FW Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota Music Honorary Society funded the project.
Music Director Designate, Andrew Constantine will be conducting the concert to be presented at the Embassy Theatre in Fort Wayne. Tickets start at $15 and may be arranged for by calling 260-481-0777, online at www.fwphil.org or at the Embassy Box Office.

Photo contest
deadline Oct. 9
The Wells County Historical Museum Street Fair Photo Contest deadline is Oct. 9. Photos can be delivered to First United Methodist Church at 325 W. Washington Street, Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m. For more information call Laura at 824-3806.

South Adams Senior trip to Bearcreek Oct. 8
The South Adams Senior Center will sponsor a Bearcreek Farms Day Thursday, Oct. 8. Cost is $20 per person and includes a family style meal, dessert, drink, tax and a 2 p.m. showing of the Van Dels (50's and 60's music). The tip is not included.
Those attending should meet at Bearcreek Farms at noon for seating. Lunche will be served at 12:30 p.m. To sign up call 260-589-8877.
Reservations and payment is due at the Senior Center by Monday, Oct. 5.

Bear Scouts event at Limberlost Oct. 10
In 1916 Robert Baden-Powell helped found the Cub Scout movement. At the same time, Hoosier author and naturalist Gene Stratton-Porter became famous for her novels and nature studies exploring the Limberlost Swamp. On Oct. 10, from 1 to 5 p.m. the Limberlost S.H.S. will bring these two worlds together.
Bear Scouts are invited to explore the Limberlost Swamp with the Limberlost S.H.S. staff where Stratton-Porter once made fascinating wildlife discoveries. Bear Scouts that take part in “Sharing your World with Wildlife” activities will earn Bear Achievement # 5. These activities include building a birdhouse, discovering wetland animals and habitats, engaging in conservation efforts to protect natural environments and receiving a guided tour of the Loblolly Nature Preserve, where youngsters can come face to face with wetland creatures. A light afternoon snack will accompany the Scouts in their quests to become young naturalists.
Spots are limited for this event! All Scouts are asked to register by Oct. 7 by calling the Limberlost S.H.S. at 260.368.7428 or by stopping by 200 E. 6th St. in Geneva, Ind. Cost is $6 per Scout.

Deadline Oct. 12 for Fall harvest banquet
The fall harvest banquet will be held at the South Adams Senior Center on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m. The meal will be catered by Norm’s Preble Gardens and the menu consists of tossed salad, swiss steak, baked chicken breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, roll/butter, assorted pies, lemonade and coffee. The centerpieces and door prizes will be given away. The entertainment will be furnished by the Unity Quartet. Cost of the banquet is $10 per person, and payment to be made at the door the night of the banquet. Call 589-8877 to make reservations by Monday, Oct. 12.

Satek Winery
Tasting Tour Oct. 15
Take a leisurely October ride through the Indiana countryside to Satek Winery near Fremont. Wines grown on Satek Winery vineyards have won gold medals, and Best in Class awards, from dry red and white wines to semi-sweet red and white wines. Tour leader Jeanne Ploetz is constructing her plans including lunch en route. Registration is $3 with cost of lunch and any purchases for gift-giving on your own. Ministries taking food orders
If you are struggling with putting food on the table or know someone who is, Angel Food Ministries at Sonlight Wesleyan Church can help. Alumni and faculty Exhibition begins Oct. 17
The School of Creative Arts at the University of Saint Francis has announced the opening of the Alumni and Faculty Exhibition on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Weatherhead Gallery in the Rolland Center. This annual tradition showcases new work by alumni and faculty of the School of Creative Arts. A wide variety of media will be on display. The exhibition will run through Sunday, Nov. 29. There is no charge for admission. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. The gallery will be closed Nov. 26-27 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
