‘Sumwalt sing-along’ ministry to end after 33 or so years

No one's really sure how long Joe and Virginia Sumwalt have been making the rounds at area nursing homes, but everyone involved has settled on 33 years.

"At least 33," Joe says.

Week in and week out, without fail, for all those many years, the Sumwalts have taken their ministry to Miller's Merry Manor in Huntington.

"We call it the Sumwalt sing-along," says Patti Bowen, activities director at Miller's.

But they didn't stop there. Their rounds included twice-a-month visits to Markle Health and Rehabilitation and services at Norwood Health and Rehabilitation on a monthly basis. Their early years also included stops at nursing homes in Bluffton and Warren.....
