Here is a list of area fireworks displays in celebration of Independence Day:

Adams County

Decatur: Fireworks at dark Saturday downtown.

Allen County

Fort Wayne: Fireworks will begin at 10:15 p.m. Saturday at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.

Leo-Cedarville: Fireworks begin at dusk Saturday at Riverside Gardens Park at Schwartz and Leo-Grabill roads.

DeKalb County

Auburn: Fireworks start at dusk July 5 at Kruse Auction Park, off Interstate 69 at exit 126.

Butler: Butler residents can enjoy a fireworks display July 11 at the conclusion of the Heartland Festival.

Garrett: Fireworks begin at 10 p.m. Saturday at Eastside Park.

Hamilton: A fireworks display will begin at dark on July 4 at Hog Hill.

Huntington County

Huntington: Fireworks start at dusk Saturday at Huntington North High School.

Roanoke: Fireworks start at dusk Saturday at Roanoke Park on Seminary Street.

Warren: Fireworks start at dusk Thursday at Tower Park on Grover Street.

Kosciusko County

North Webster: Fireworks begin at dusk Friday in the town’s park.

Syracuse: Fireworks begin at 10 p.m. Friday at Lake Syracuse. Fireworks begin at 10 p.m. Saturday at Lake Wawasee.

Warsaw/Winona Lake: Fireworks start at 10 p.m. Friday.

LaGrange County

Topeka: Fireworks begin at 10 p.m. Saturday at Topeka East Park.

Wolcottville: Fireworks begin at dusk Friday in Taylor Park.

Noble County

Albion: Fireworks start at dusk Thursday at Central Noble School campus.

Kendallville: Fireworks begin at dusk Saturday at Bixler Lake.

Rome City: Fireworks begin at dusk Saturday.

Wabash: Fireworks begin at dusk Saturday at Field of Dreams, a sports complex along Indiana 13/Manchester Avenue north of downtown.

Bluffton: Fireworks begin at 10 p.m. Saturday at the school.

Whitley County

Columbia City: Fireworks will start at dusk Friday at Morsches Park.

Defiance County

Defiance: Fireworks begin at dusk Friday at Pontiac Park.

Van Wert County

Van Wert: Fireworks begin at dusk Friday at Van Wert County Regional Airport.

Entry deadline for 4-H Talent Show is July 13

Entry forms are available for the annual 4-H Talent Show which will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, during the annual Wells County 4-H Fair in Bluffton. Forms are due Monday, July 13.
The contestants will be divided into three grade classifications: Class A, Grades 1 and 2; Class B, Grades 3 through 6; and Class C, Grades 7 through 12. The grade in school is based on Jan. 1 of this year.
Within each class, participants may enter in vocal, instrumental or other. All contestants must be present 4-H members.
Youth will be able to participate in a sound check between 5 and 6:30 p.m..
Awards will be presented to winners in each category and the Mack Shultz Award will be presented to the top talent winner. The award is presented in memory of Mack Shultz who was a 10-year 4-H member who loved music. His Air Force jet disappeared off the coast of Florida in the Bermuda Triangle. Mack was the son of the late Shirley and Galen Shultz and brother to Peggy (Norman) Schweikhardt of Warren.
Applications are available from 4-H leaders or from the Wells County Office of the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service at 1240 S. 4-H Road. The Extension office's phone number is 824-6412.

Toddler, woman drown in Lagrange County

It's been a deadly weekend on the water in Lagrange county. In two unrelated accidents, A three year old Warsaw girl and a Wolcottville woman drown while visiting two Lagrange County lakes. Indiana Conservation Officers says they were called to Cass Lake just after 5:30 Saturday for a report of a drowning. The 3-year-old Wakarusa girl, Kennedy Stansbury, was pulled from the water and was not breathing.

A person at the lake started performing CPR on the child until paramedics arrived and transported her to the hospital, where she later died.

SUV plunges over embankment, lands on Indiana County driver

An 18-year-old Blairsville man was injured when his SUV plunged over a
140-foot embankment, overturned several times and landed on top of him, state police said Friday.
The driver, Nicholas Pantalone, was ejected from the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee as it went over the hillside.
Police said he had failed to see a stop sign and the vehicle broke through a guardrail before plunging down the embankment.

Miss Wells County Pageant Applications due

Interested in being Miss Wells County?

Applications are now being accepted for the 2009 Miss Wells County Pageant. The pageant is scheduled for Monday, July 20, in conjunction with the 4-H Fair. The pageant is open to females ages 16-20 (must be 16 by Aug. 15). The local contest resembles the Indiana State Fair Queen Contest to which the Miss Wells County Pageant is a preliminary.

There will be two workshops to help prepare the contestants for the contest.
The first workshop is slated for July 6 at 6 p.m. at the Wells County Community Center. Workshop #2 will be July 15 at 4 p.m.
Applications may be obtained from the Purdue Wells County Extension Office or by contacting the pageant director, Cathy Neu at 694-6522.
