Troyer dumps bid for Congress, eyes state rep seat

FORT WAYNE - Phil Troyer is ditching his bid for Congress in hopes of taking over Indiana’s House of Representatives seat for the 83rd District.

Current Rep. Matt Bell, R-Avilla, announced last week he won’t seek reelection after he took a job as the director of the Regional Chamber of Northeast Indiana.

Troyer said he is better suited for the House seat during a news conference Tuesday at Allen County Republican headquarters.

“I think I can make a much more immediate impact in the Indiana General Assembly as one of 100 members of the Indiana House, as opposed to being a freshman Congressmen in the hierarchy or Washington, D.C.,” Troyer said....
