An emerging pattern: Revenue rises at Vera Bradley

FORT WAYNE - Vera Bradley Inc. reported net revenue for the fiscal year ending Jan. 29 that was 27 percent higher than the previous year and net income that was up 7 percent. But its recently announced plans to expand into Japan are now in flux, for obvious reasons.

On a March 15 conference call that followed the company’s first-ever earnings release since its initial public offering last October, CEO Michael Ray said no harm had come to Vera Bradley’s employees in Japan as a result of the earthquake that hit there on the afternoon of March 10.

The company had announced in January that it planned to extend its brand in Japan this year through “pop-up” stores and Web sales, with a kickoff event scheduled April 1.....
