School board rejects plan to sell bonds

Huntington County Tab:

The Huntington County Community School Corporation Board of School Trustees rejected plans to sell bonds to fund school maintenance projects on Monday evening, March 14, by a 4-3 vote.

The $2 million Qualified Schools Construction Bond would have paid for a heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system at Horace Mann Elementary School, renovations in the Huntington North High School cafeteria and upgrades to the corporation's technology.

The Horace Mann HVAC system's estimated cost was about $350,000 and would have replaced the current aging system. The cafeteria renovations at HNHS were estimated at about $300,000 and would have added more lines to the cafeteria for more student food selections, a project Superintendent Tracey Shafer said was a marketing effort in order to sell a better product to the students.....
