Baker wins state title on beam, medals in two other events at gymnastics finals

Huntington North High School's Jessica Baker won a state title and received medals in two other events as well at the 39th annual IHSAA Gymnastics State Finals on Saturday, March 19, at Ball State University.

Baker, a junior, scored a 9.625 to win the balance beam over 47 other competitors, and she added to that triumph by receiving a medal for placing third on the uneven bars and sixth in the all-around.

Top six finishers in each event got the all-state hardware.

Huntington North sophomore Stephanie Freeman, also competing, had her best finish on the bars, tying for 13th place with a score of 9.200.

Baker beat her closest competitor on beam, Abaigale Light, of LaPorte, by more than one point as Light scored a 9.450 for runner-up honors.
