Empty mailbox? Check with local post office

If your mailbox has been empty for a few days, you might want to check with your local post office.

As of late last week, the Huntington Post Office was holding mail for about 1,000 addresses that couldn't be delivered because of mounds of icy snow blocking rural mailboxes and covering city sidewalks, says Julie Przybylinski, supervisor of customer services at the Huntington Post Office.

Carriers can't deliver mail to boxes they can't get to, she explains, so the mail will be held at the post office either until the snow melts or is cleared or for 30 days - a policy Przybylinski says is standard throughout the postal service. The 30-day hold will be extended for another 30 days if the weather continues to affect deliveries, she says....
