Board of Public Works considers new water tower

Berne Tri-Weekly:

A request was also made to invite two engineering firms to produce proposals for the design and construction of a new 500,000 gallon elevated water storage tower. This new tower would provide the city with more water in case of emergencies....
Money from the Water Department’s depreciation fund would pay for part of the project, but more money would be needed to cover the rest. They are trying to fund the project without having to use bonding.
Due to the cost of building and operating a new tower, Council may have to look at raising water rates in the future. The last raise in water rates took place in 1990. Rates were lowered in 2000.
